Returning Indianettes will have a new face staring back at them next year.

Mrs. Courtnie Schexnaider will be taking over as director at the end of the school year.

Longtime director, Laura Solis announced she was stepping down in mid January.

The position is one Schexnaider is familiar with, having been director before in the early 2000s.

“I’m very excited,” Schexnaider said. “I think it’s always been in my blood.”

Schexnaider, a drill team member in high school, graduated from Bridge City in 1997. She then went on to be a Cowgirl Kicker at McNeese University before her first role as Indianette director.

“I did it for 6 years,” Schexnaider said. “I stopped when I had my son. My husband was also a football coach and Indianettes was very time consuming.”

As next year’s candidates went through tryouts, Schexnaider said she’s looking forward to making memories with her new girls. New Indianette officers were named on May 3 and the captain named May 7. Leading the squad on the field next year will be: Captain Kristen Crippen, Lt. Channing Hebert, Lt. Emily Jordan, Lt. Olivia Owens, Lt. Sarah Guidry, Lt. Jacy Carona and Lt. Chloe Raborn.

A junior and returning Indianette, Corona is excited for the new direction but said she has yet to have really gotten to know Mrs. Schexnaider.

“I’m anxious to see how it’s going to go with all of the new girls, but excited to spend senior year as an Indianette with all of my friends.”

This year, incoming sophomores were allowed to tryout for the team in an effort to bolster the squad’s numbers.

“There is going to only 12 seniors and most likely 30 new girls, so it’s probably going to be a lot of work, but we’re ready for it.”

New Indianettes named, that were not on the team last year, are: Alicia Abshere, Breelyn Brittain, Lany Fore, Marissa Hilton, Charity Nguyen, Haley Ryder, Jolie Tassin, Madelyn Vidrine, Chloe  Woods, Kaitlyn Abshire, Josie Collazo, Delaney Frederick, Abbey Humphrey, Daniella Randazzo, Demi Simon, Kassady Thomson, Marena Welch, Julia Barrett, Catalina Dumesnil, Libbie Guidry, Alexis Morgan, Macie Reeves, Jillian Tassin, Megan Venable, Katelyn Williford.
