After a three year break, the Pow Wow is finally back. The new editors, Gilberto Moreno and Brynna Vice, are bringing back the voice of PN-G students. They have been working since the beginning of the year organizing galleries, stories, and interviews.
NDN Press’ Lily Keys sat down with both editors to get their insights on starting things back up.
GILBERTO MORENO
Q: What made you want to start it up again?
A: I wanted to bring a form of student news back to PNGHS. I think we could all benefit from a more informative form of communication on the student experience. Additionally, Pow Wow now collaborates with other parts of NDN Press, such as photography for galleries.
Q: What is the future of Pow Wow?
A: There’s much to come, Brynna and I have worked around the clock to bring a modern and innovative Pow Wow to our school. I think it’s fair to say that the future of Pow Wow is bright.
Q: What’s most challenging?
A: The most challenging part of this experience is the time. Time management will dictate when a story is posted or a gallery is shared. There’s always something to do in this organization. However, the rush of the work is very exciting.
Q: What would you take away from this experience?
A: My hope is to be able to communicate in a journalistic manner. I will be going to college with hopes of doing something in media, so being a Pow Wow Editor is an experience I’ll always carry with me.
Q: What is your favorite type of story to do?
A:I would say my favorite type of stories are those that inform people. For example, I enjoyed the Veterans Memorial story very much . From interviewing to writing the story, the entire process is an art of its own.
BRYNNA VICE
Q: What made you want to start it up again?
A: I wanted to start it up again because I feel like the school should have the newspaper again because growing up I used to read the Pow Wow newspapers and I loved it.
Q: What is the future of Pow Wow?
A: Now that people see our work we hope that more people get involved with it after we graduate and keep it up.
Q: What’s most challenging?
A: I think the most challenging thing is to make an article not sound boring because you want to give readers info but make it interesting as well.
Q: What would you take away from this experience?
A: I gained a lot from doing this, I felt really accomplished doing this for our community.
Q: What is your favorite type of story to do?
A: I like doing sports stories.
