Typically, summer is a time when new high school journalism staffs come together to plan the next year’s publications. This usually takes place at summer journalism or communication workshops (AKA: yearbook camp — yes, that’s a thing!).

This summer, annual workshops and camps our staff usually attends (ILPC at the University of Texas in Austin and Balfour at Texas A&M University in College Station) were canceled in lieu of virtual workshops. As their registration deadlines approached, moving forward along that route became necessary.

NDN Press is partnering with our regional Balfour representatives to host the first SETX High School Communication Workshop, with sessions catered to high school journalism students, staffs and advisers to kickstart the year and plan.

The workshop will be held here at Port Neches-Groves High School from Thursday-Saturday, July 30-Aug. 1.

Dubbed FOCUS 2020, the workshop will offer classes along the following focal points:

• SOFTWARE TRAINING
• ADVISER ROUND TABLE
• THEME AND COVER DEVELOPMENT
• PHOTOJOURNALISM
• SOCIAL MEDIA, MARKETING & SALES
• ADVANCED WRITING
• UIL JOURNALISM PREP
… And more!

The cost is $75 per student and adviser. The deadline to register is Friday, July 3. Attending staffers and advisers will receive a T-Shirt and lunch will be provided each day.
