Struggling to stay upright, varsity football player Tyce Benkert (‘26) falters near the sideline during the regular-season finale at Dayton on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024. With PNG up 7-0, the Indians faced a 3rd-and-9 with just over six minutes left in the first quarter. As the defense rushed in, quarterback Connor Bailey (‘26) remained steady and hit Benkert as he crossed the middle of the field where he took the ball toward the sideline for an 18-yard gain to keep the drive alive. Plays later, running back Tyson Henry (‘27) barreled through the Broncos’ defense for a 33-yard touchdown, helping to increase a lead the Indians would never be in danger of losing. The Indians would overpower Dayton, 30-3, helping to put the team in place to finish as district champs when Nederland eventually fell to Montgomery in overtime later that night.
