Located at the main entrance of Port Neches-Groves High School, the PNG Veterans Memorial pays tribute to former students who served in the armed forces.
This solemn monument honors the brave individuals who made sacrifices in service to their community and country by serving as a lasting tribute to all PNG veterans.
“We started off doing small gestures to honor veterans who gave so much and it’s been awesome to be a part of something for the veterans and how they appreciate it,” Principal Dr. Scott Ryan said.
An adjacent plaque features the names, military posts and graduation years of these alumni, ensuring that their contributions are remembered by future generations. A dedicated section of the memorial honors PNG veterans who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The research to identify these names was conducted by Don Dorsey (’64), who also designed the mascot statue, Geronimo, which resides in front of the library entrance.
In addition, former students who served in the military had the option to take home an extra plaque in recognition of their service.
The Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group, an organization committed to honoring veterans, will assist with a ceremony on Veterans Day, November 11th, to recognize these students’ service.
