As a deluge of purple and white confetti rains down on them, the varsity football team hoists the Bum Phillips Trophy over its heads following its 41-16 victory in the annual Mid-County Madness rivalry football game with Nederland on Friday, Oct. 27 at Bulldog Stadium in Nederland.
The Bum Phillips trophy was christened in the 2013 matchup between the two teams on Friday, Oct. 18. The elder Phillips tragically passed away that evening as the teams battled for the trophy for the first time.
Bum Phillips coached both teams in shorts stints during the 1950s and 60s, his last stint being with PNG, where he coached as son, Wade, played.
