Both PN-G varsity soccer teams finished the regular season with high marks, the girls ending District 21-5A play in second place with a 9-2-1 record and the boys taking the outright district championship with a similar record.

The boys team tied with Dayton for the best district record, but edged the Broncos on district points, 29 to 28.

This was helped by a Dayton loss to Port Arthur Memorial in a shootout after a 3-3 tie in regulation and the Indians’ own 4-0 win over Vidor.

The girls also defeated Vidor, 4-1, to end the regular season last Friday.

“Great night to be an Indian last night,” Bates wrote on Facebook after the win. “This was short of our goal, but I am so proud of this team because to be honest we had a lot of setbacks along the way. I think we have learned a lot about life and how to overcome and to keep fighting.

“Now it’s time for my favorite — PLAYOFFS.”

The girls’ playoff quest begins in the Bidistrict round against Crosby at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Beaumont ISD’s Memorial Stadium.

The boys begin their playoffs in the Bidistrict tround against Goose Creek Memorial at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lamar University’s Soccer Complex.
